Arts Upper Hunter is pleased to welcome new board member Peter McGill who is the Upper Hunter Shire Council delegate to our board.
Peter McGill has worked in the Theatre, Music, Entertainment and Events industry for 49 years, the last 26 as a Pyrotechnician.
Peter’s first gig was as Stage Manager on the Marionette Theatre of Australia’s production of Tintookies in 1975.
It has been a varied career from Tintookies to Barry Humphries; Chuck Berry to KISS; built Matilda for the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games; 20 years 1812 Overture for Sydney Festival; opened 100 Bunnings stores across Australia including Singleton and Tamworth; PBR Tamworth & Newcastle, Quirindi Show and Golden Guitar Awards.
In 1998 Peter joined the staff of Syd Howard Fireworks working closely with Master Pyrotechnician Syd Howard. As Operations Manager, Peter was part of the team that undertook major displays throughout Australia, such as Millennium New Year’s Eve, 2000 Olympic Closing Night, 2000 Paralympic Opening & Closing Ceremonies and Brisbane Riverfire.
In March 2004 Peter established Pyro Oz Productions with partner Julie. Pyro Oz has worked on more than 3,000 events since establishment.
Peter was Chair of the Glen Street Theatre Board for a number of years and is former President of the Pyrotechnics Industry Association.
