On 13 April we unveiled our new website dedicated to What’s On, Who’s Who and What’s Where in our region. Creative Valleys: Cultural Trails of the Upper Hunter was launched by Member for the Upper Hunter, Dave Layzell, at the CWA Hall in Murrurundi.
Creative Valleys stands as a curated online platform spotlighting artistic and cultural venues, events, narratives, and historical landmarks spanning the Dungog, Singleton, Muswellbrook, and Upper Hunter regions. Its name pays homage to the diverse valleys that collectively enrich the vibrant tapestry of the Upper Hunter region. We’d love you to jump on and have a look around – and maybe complete the Survey linked to the site to tell us what you think.
At the same launch event, the short film “Carmel and Gwen, The Twin of the Pioneer Cottage” made its debut to great acclaim.
More than just a digital space for tourists, Creative Valleys will act as a springboard for initiatives and partnerships, exemplified by projects like “Gwen and Carmel” and the “This Here Then Now: Museum Activation” program. These ventures foster artistic expression, community involvement, and bolster cultural tourism assets. Our philosophy is that community engagement, grassroots involvement, and collaborative networks are the cornerstone of cultural tourism.
Developed by Arts Upper Hunter and the Upper Hunter Cultural Tourism Group in collaboration with the Upper Hunter’s four LGAs—Dungog Shire, Singleton Region, Muswellbrook Shire, and Upper Hunter Shire—the Creative Valleys platform addresses the growing need to support and enrich cultural tourism in the area.
A significant portion of the platform’s content is curated from ATDW (Australian Tourism Data Warehouse), with active efforts underway to encourage community groups to showcase their galleries, museums, events, workshops, public art, and more on the platform.
