Day One
Alex will provide insights and the inspiration that goes into running a multi-day arts festival like CEMENTA.
https://cementa.com.au
Alex will then facilitate discussions with members of the arts and crafts community, businesses and interested members of the community to:
• explore ideas and themes,
• audit existing and potential resources and partnerships, and
• review the challenges that the community will face in staging a substantial cultural event.
The workshop will produce a working plan and methodology that will allow the community, via the cultural leadership of MACC, to proceed to the practical task of raising finances, securing venues and logistical support, inviting and contracting artists, planning and staging the event itself.
Alex’s approach involves a deep consideration of community that centres on identity, and grounds artistic activity in the culture of a place. From this starting point, workshop participants will be asked to look outside of themselves to find something that will draw in audiences from outside of the town, make the event unique and meaningful while maintaining its relationship to the place in which it will be staged.
