The Pastel Society of Australia’s (PSA) is thrilled to host renowned Australian artist Paul McCarthy as a guest tutor for PSA since 2024!
Paul’s vibrant work captures the spirit, colour, and rhythm of the Australian landscape. Blending the boldness of Fauvism, the softness of Impressionism, and a contemporary edge, his art is a celebration of light, movement, and nature.
Particularly known for his plein air art practice, Paul is also a passionate teacher and encourages students to go outside to observe and capture the light. Paul has exhibited nationally and internationally — including a major show in New York’s SoHo district! His teaching style is relaxed, fun, and full of valuable insights into colour, design, and composition.
Paul will be joining the Pastel Society of Australia’s (PSA) to run a 2-day pastel workshop where he’ll share his unique techniques — including his distinctive “wetting down” method — and guide you to find tone, rhythm, and energy in your own work.
