Dungog by Design “In the Frame” presents “Exhibition by Teresa Byrne” for the month of June.
Artist statement.
I am a nature loving person who loves animals, gardening, cooking and knitting, but particularly painting. I live in Scone, horse capitol of Australia, so commissions for equine paintings are on the agenda along with children and dog portraiture.
After my last dog died, I decided to have chickens for the first time. Well, I fell in love with the mini dinosaur look of them and painted them as fashion models!
I have painted and drawn since childhood, my parents had a veterinary business, and I grew up on a horse stud. I studied painting and drawing in Italy before migrating to Australia in 1981. My practice involves drawing and painting with pencils, charcoal, pastel, watercolour, acrylic and oil.
Other than a few years exhibiting with Von Bertouch Galleries in Newcastle, I have painted commissioned portraits of people and animals, where my aim is to convey an essence of my subjects. I also paint still lifes, and the occasional tongue in cheek environmental/political work.
With the wish to diversify, my interests led to the study of Natural History Illustration at Newcastle University, graduating in 2018 with a Bachelor of Natural History Illustration (distinction).
Venue: Dungog By Design, 224 Dowling St, Dungog.
