Singleton Town Centre will be ablaze with vibrant performances, hearty food and live entertainment when Firelight makes its COVID-safe return as part of Living Laneways on Saturday 29 May 2021.
3000 people are expected to converge on John Street for the free family-friendly event, coinciding with the creative activation in Burns Lane.
Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore said now in its third year, the return of Firelight was a great opportunity for locals and visitors to have some fun while rediscovering all that Singleton has to offer.
“We are really excited to host our first major community event since the pandemic, and we’re turning up the heat on John Street and Burns Lane, transforming our CBD into a hothouse of entertainment, food and family-friendly fun,” she said.
“Our annual homage to cooler temperatures was amazingly popular in 2018 and 2019, and we hope this year will be no different with vibrant pyrotechnics, live music and other entertainment alongside some of the best food and wine the Hunter Valley has to offer.
“After the drought, fires, floods, and COVID-19, it’s well and truly time for our community to celebrate and have some fun — in a COVID safe way of course — and I encourage everyone to come out and celebrate Singleton and our offerings.”
Event goers are also invited to participate in the cultural activation in Burns Lane, which is being transformed as part of Council’s Living Laneways program.
“We’re converting Burns Lane into a creative canvas with an amazing lighting installation and mural artwork — it’s yet another new space enabled through the Living Laneways project to showcase creative arts in Singleton,” Cr Moore said.
“This is a great opportunity for locals to find renewed inspiration in all that Singleton has to offer, and for visitors to discover the hidden and not-so-hidden gems that make Singleton a hub of creativity and community.”
Firelight will be held on Saturday 29 May 2021 on John Street and Burns Lane from 6pm – 9pm. To keep up to date with event information and updates, follow Council’s Facebook page.
The Living Laneways project is funded by a NSW Government Streets as Shared Spaces grant. The Burns Lane activation is powered by the University of Newcastle’s Future Art, Science and Technology Lab with mural artwork by Bronte Naylor.
