On Wednesday 19th July Jakeob Watson proud Gomeroi man, artist and storyteller held Stage 1 of the mural project as part of the Liddell Creative program.
Students from Merriwa and Cassilis schools were involved with creating the first layers of the art works. Jakeob told the story of Baiame and the importance of family and who you consider to be family. This was then transposed into drawings with family depicted therein.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day where the participants learnt about First Nations culture, dreamtime stories, family connections and self-awareness.
If you would like to be involved with Stage 2 or 3 of the mural painting come along to NAIDOC day 30th July at Victoria Park, Muswellbrook or Create By The Lake on Wednesday 4th October.
