Glam up and join leading authors and thinkers for the Library After Dark
With a program including authors Jaclyn, Liane and Nicola Moriarty and Markus Zusak, and topics covering the past and future of indigenous recognition through to the art of the novel, this year’s Sydney Writers’ Festival (SWF) is penning a packed program of inspiration from 22 – 25 May.
And the biggest headline is that it’s all coming to Singleton—for free.
Singleton Public Library is throwing open the doors after hours to be part of the SWF Live & Local project, livestreaming talks with some of the biggest Australian and international authors for people to enjoy in the comfort of the Library.
Dwight Graham, Singleton Council’s Director Corporate + Commercial Services, said events would run from 10am across all four days of the festival and into the night.
“We’re encouraging people to gather with their friends or meet new ones to hear from their favourite authors, and the best part is they can settle in with a cuppa without the hassle of travelling to Sydney,” he said.
“The Library is extending its operating hours and will open later on Thursday 22 May, Friday 23 May and Saturday 23 May and on Sunday 25 May exclusively to stream SWF talks.
“The program promises to be invigorating and engaging with conversations, debates and discussions covering a range of topics, and audiences can also participate in live Q&A sessions at each event, sending questions straight to the Sydney stage.”
Mr Graham said while the SWF Live & Local project aimed to promote interest in books and reading nationally through opportunities for audiences to participate in festival events through the use of digital livestream technology, it didn’t mean Singleton audiences couldn’t dress up.
“To celebrate the exclusivity of the nighttime streamed talks, we’re creating a program called Library After Dark to encourage people to frock up and make an occasion of it,” he said.
“There’ll be literary mocktails, hot drinks and a wonderful, social atmosphere to be part of so that everyone can have the experience of a night out at the SWF—without the need to head down the freeway.
“And there’s no need to book—everyone is invited to come along and enjoy the events they’re interested in.”
Library After Dark will run each night of the SWF (22 – 25 May) from 5.30pm onwards.
