Will Maguire’s latest exhibition of new work is opening at Traffic Jam Galleries in Neutral Bay in Saturday the 9th of April 2-4pm 2022. -10% of all sales will be donated to Ukrainian refugees.
The exhibition is an exploration into the vibrancy of matter and features work in forged iron and timber. Here is an abridged statement about the show:
“Porous and quivering is a quote from philosopher Jane Bennett. She refers to the vitality of metals micro-structure as far from internally uniform, but made of mostly curved-edge and irregular molecules, loose atoms, voids and cracks. These metal grains, gaps and ‘quivering free atoms’ are in constant conversation, pressing on and responding to their neighbours in shifting feedback spirals and porous boundaries.
This presents us with a view of metal as active within the world, not the cold static thing we commonly think of. This is a beautiful idea. It provides a new perspective to viewing and valuing one of the most mundane and brutally practical of materials. It presents metal as restlessly active and ever changing as seen in its porous quivering micro-structure.”
Official Opening: Saturday 9 April 2022, 2-4pm.
