Last year Scone-based artist Janno McLaughlin set herself the task of sewing & assembling a quilt as big as a house to deliver to the Ukrainian embassy in London then on to Ukraine to be wrapped Christo-like around significant landmarks.
More than 9,000 patches have been received from all around the world: an outstanding show of love, kindness and support for the people of Ukraine.
On the 24 February, the anniversary of the Russia invading Ukraine, Janno was the lecturer at the Scone ADFAS meeting. She spoke of her life, reflecting on her career paths of artist, adventurer, leader and nurse. She also announced her plan to double the size of the quilt.
So she is calling for people all over Australia (and the world) to get crafting and send in a 30 x 30 cm patch, based on the themes of sunflowers, hope, optimism, and peace.
Finished patches can be sent to Janno McLaughlin, PO Box 746, Scone. For more details visit website.
