Artist Statement
“Their power, my passion
I have been drawn (excuse the pun) to horses for as long as I can remember. Hanging out for the sound of a milk delivery, pestering my parents for a pony for each birthday and Christmas, till I was finally an adult, with my own paycheque, and could buy my first one. It is no surprise that one of my greatest joys as a photographer is to capture the power and beauty of a horse in motion, or the quiet strength of a portrait.
When I decided to extend my creative range by taking up drawing and painting it was a natural conclusion my favourite subject continues to be horses. I am, however, exploring what that means for me. Photography captures incredible precise detail, but I often like to go into post editing to draw out a little more of the emotion and a more painterly effect. As I develop my sketching skills, I do not want the end result just to be a faithful copy of the original photograph, I want to tease out what that passion means for me.
I am at the beginning of that journey.”
