Artist Statement
“Intermezzo” is a musical term denoting a transitional passage.
This idea of the intermezzo resonates with my current process, as I find myself returning to old ways of painting. A transition between past and future, between urban and rural life, as the work assumes shifts in dimension and palette. The tension between introspection, nostalgia and the perpetual surge of the elements, the volume of the sky, and the mutability of the sea.
Flux, firmament and textural illusion forge the depth of each work. Metamorphosis is both a metaphor and the physical expression of my own desire for change. They are propelled by contradiction, restless and at peace. They are deliberately staged intervals, offering sanctuary in the face of upheaval.
