Small Forest Wines is proud to present this exhibition by Elleanor Lyons. This exhibition marks Elleanor’s first public collection – a celebration of a lifelong love of animals, the Australian landscape and the joy of creating. It closes on Sunday 25 October 2026.
Artist statement
Born and raised on a sheep and cattle station in outback Queensland, Elleanor grew up surrounded by endless skies, rich black clay soil, horses and hardworking dogs. Long before she picked up a paintbrush, she was shaping horses and small figures from the clay after rain. It was here that her lifelong connection with animals and the Australian landscape began.
After boarding school in Toowoomba, Elleanor’s love of horses and country life led her to work on horse studs and remote cattle stations across Australia before travelling extensively through Canada, the United States and Mexico, followed by journeys throughout Asia. These experiences deepened her appreciation of the landscapes, people and cultures she encountered.
While living on King Island, painting found its way back into her life. Today, Elleanor lives on a property near Toowoomba, where she continues to paint while raising her three young children – Alfie, Ollie and Lottie.
Working primarily in acrylic, Elleanor creates works inspired by a life lived close to animals and the land, capturing both the physical presence and inner character of her subjects. Her paintings reflect the places she has called home, the life she has embraced and her enduring connection to the natural world.
