Recently, students from Scone Grammar took part in workshops with immersive artist Anna Fraser, researching and animating items from the collection at Scone Museum. Using Procreate, students drew and documented stories and objects of interest, including a brass fire helmet, a prickly pear pulper, a remnant of dingo fence, and a buckjumping saddle. The resulting digital works will be displayed on small screens in the Museum alongside the collection, adding a layer of contemporary interest to the space.
Anna’s experience is extensive in animation work – from digital effects for Marvel films to creating projections for Vivid at the Sydney Opera House. She brings a skillset to the regions which, through engaging workshops, can broaden students’ understanding of professional practice in this realm.
Scone Grammar teacher Anna Towse said: “Students were thrilled to take part in the creative workshop. The workshop offered a rare behind-the-scenes look at how Anna creates her captivating artworks and large-scale digital projects. It was an engaging and memorable experience that sparked curiosity, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for contemporary art and technologies.”
This workshop is part of Scone Museum’s Time Portal project, funded by the Government of NSW. The project will see the activation of the old lock-up jail cell at the Museum, with Anna creating an immersive digital work alongside sound artist Gary Sinclair that will bring to life the items and stories of the collection. The immersive installation will be launched in 2026.
School Holiday Workshop Anna is planning to run a school holiday workshop using Procreate. For more information and to register your interest, please contact Project Manager Suzannah Jones on 0447 813 327 or suzannahjj@yahoo.com.au.
