Singleton will welcome the Australia Day long weekend with Twilight, the annual free community celebration featuring family fun, live entertainment and an outdoor cinema at Townhead Park on Sunday 25 January from 6 – 9.30pm.
Held on Australia Day Eve, Twilight invites the community to gather as the sun sets for a relaxed summer evening celebrating connection, creativity and community spirit.
The event will feature a jam-packed program of free entertainment and activities for all ages, with an outdoor cinema screening of The Lego Movie with free popcorn, food trucks and a pop-up bar, live music, bushtucker tasting, kids’ craft and activities, face painting, balloon twisting, a jumping castle and a water slip and slide, with event goers encouraged to bring swimmers and a towel.
Mayor of Singleton Cr Sue Moore said Twilight had become a much-loved way for the community to come together ahead of Australia Day.
“Twilight is about enjoying the simple things that make summer in Singleton special – time with family and friends, good food, live music and sharing a great night out in Townhead Park,” she said.
“It’s a welcoming, inclusive event that reflects the strong sense of community we’re proud of, and a perfect way to celebrate on the Australia Day long weekend.”
The celebrations will continue on Australia Day, with a traditional BBQ breakfast from 8am at Singleton Civic Centre cooked up by volunteers from Singleton Rotary (gold coin donation), followed by the official Australia Day ceremony from 9.30am.
The ceremony will include a citizenship ceremony, the announcement of the Singleton Citizen of the Year and Young Achiever of the Year, and a special address by acclaimed author and local Wonnarua Elder Dr James Wilson Miller.
“Australia Day gives us an opportunity to recognise the people who quietly and consistently make a difference in Singleton,” Cr Moore said
“It’s also an extremely meaningful moment to welcome new citizens who have chosen Singleton as their home, and to reflect on the shared values that bring our community together.”
The official Australia Day ceremony will also be livestreamed on Council’s Facebook page and website.
